Living in SE Asia, it was not uncommon to see all sorts of skin whitening "beauty" products. Subway ads, billboards, and 7-11 displays full of the products themselves all touting themselves as the best for bleaching the color out of your skin. One product, Snail White, which I'm sure is full of only the best snail secretion filtrates, really got me thinking. First I thought something like, "Haha, that kind of sounds like Snow White", and then something more along the lines of "Woah, unrealistic beauty standards are pretty crappy". Thanks to a really great thinktank session with some friends shortly after, I was able to compile a solid list of Princess/Insect puns and from there the Prinsects project was born. I hope you find them even half as amusing as I do!

Last year I made an unofficial new years resolution to try and come up with a unique Flash Sheet every week for the year. The idea was to come up with a full page of designs referencing a single word or idea. Although I definitely fell short of the full year mark, I did manage to keep the project alive 20 solid weeks before I got sidetracked and started working on other things instead. I'm really happy with the results and had a lot of fun incorporating more pencil shading into the pieces as I got more into the series.
In 2017 I moved up to Manchester by the Sea, MA, home of the beautiful Singing Beach. Thanks to finding a really awesome drawing rock and the fact that the water was paralyzingly freezing, I started drawing designs in the sand. Although I am much better about going in the water now, I still love drawing in the sand whenever I get the chance
Rattle Tattoo Flash Studies - 2015 After about a year in Thailand, I got connected with Rattle Tattoo; a small tattoo shop set up at a Bangkok night market. They taught me a little about tattooing and a lot about pencil drawing in exchange for hanging around the shop to help them keep sharp on their conversational English. Nick, Fang, and Beam had me practicing in pencil a majority of the time (most of which would not be worth sharing) but, as you can see, I was still able to spend a good bit of time incorporating my pen & ink hatching style into the flash designs from books and magazines around the shop.

Aboudt:Thanks for visiting my Ardt Blog. You may see a few colors pop up here and there as you scroll down through my work, but for the most part I tend to do mostly pen & ink and pencil illustrations. I'm always coming up with various projects for myself to work on so you'll see a fairly decent variety of subjects. Please reach out to me through the contact page if you're interested in purchasing a print of anything you happen to like or for any commission inquiries if there's something specific you'd like to see.
